Deborah Monteith-Neubert, a founding partner of Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C., has extensive experience in the area of construction and design professional law. She has counseled design professionals, owners, and contractors during all phases of design and construction, and has represented them in litigation, including both jury and court trials, arbitration, and mediation. She has handled appeals in the Connecticut Appellate Courts, First Circuit Court of Appeals and the New Hampshire Supreme Court in this area. Her practice also includes contract negotiation and drafting as well as legal troubleshooting during design and construction.
She also has experience and expertise in areas of employment law, with specific emphasis on employee at will, discrimination, wages and hours, severance agreements, noncompetition and anti solicitation clauses, and other non union employee issues. She has practiced before state and federal courts and administrative agencies in these areas. She has drafted a number of employee handbooks for businesses, including architectural, engineering and scientific research firms, hospitals, restaurants, non profit organizations, churches, and small businesses. She also drafts and negotiates employment agreements for businesses as well as employees.
Attorney Monteith has also handled many commercial cases, primarily in the banking and commercial paper area on behalf of financial institutions. These cases have included usury, truth in lending, Uniform Commercial Code, commercial paper, foreclosure and replevin issues. She has handled appeals in this area in the Connecticut Supreme Court and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
She joined the law firm of Updike, Kelly & Spellacy, P.C., in 1980, and became a principal of the firm in 1987. She left it in 1993 to form Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C.
Attorney Monteith graduated from Williams College with honors in 1977, and received her J.D. in 1980 from the University of Connecticut School of Law. She is a member of the Labor and Employment Sections and Construction Law Sections of the Connecticut and American Bar Associations. She is also a member of the New Haven County Bar Association.
